I really enjoy delivering Scotland's Mental Health First Aid (SMHFA) which is a truly life-enhancing programme, designed to help raise awareness and understanding of mental health issues.
According to mentalhealth.org.uk:
"70 million work days are lost each year due to mental health problems in the UK, costing employers approximately £2.4 billion per year."
SMHFA, therefore, is a crucial programme for modern businesses as it helps to remove both the stigma of mental ill health, and the fear in approaching a person in distress. It's the psychological equivalent of the recovery position.
I pride myself in being able to build confidence in people, and help them approach and support people with mental health problems.
Amongst others, I have recently worked with Children 1st (ParentLine Scotland), Scottish Power, Colleges Development Network, NHS (Criminal Justice Social Workers), West College Scotland, Royal Conservatoire, West Lothian College, West of Scotland Housing Association and The Spark (for whom I deliver Open Courses which attract a wide diversity of participants).
I am passionate about helping people to be the best they can be. I am privileged to have studied a wide variety of courses across a number of different organisations which allows me to keep this passion alive.
Courses and training
Scotland's Mental Health First Aid
This is an NHS certified course administered through Health Scotland that provides a supportive setting for participants to increase their awareness of mental ill health. It helps them gain the confidence to safely offer help and support to anyone who appears to be in a low mood or suffering from a mental ill health condition.
Mental Health First Aid helps with issues such as improving employee confidence, lowering workplace stress, and removing the sigma of mental ill heath. Effective support in these areas, along with the other areas covered by this course, will help with lowering the number of hours lost to mental ill health each year.
Available at a rate of £750 for a two day course for up to 16 participants.
Standard courses last two working days, though the exact timeline can be flexible.
I have been a qualified Careers Adviser since 1995 and have assisted many people take their next, or even their first, step on the career ladder. I aim to help people to think about their career journey so far; highs, lows, strengths, challenges etc. Working out where they would like to be and plotting out what it might take to get them there.
We are at work for a huge proportion of our week so reigniting excitement about our job or recognising the right time to change is pivotal to both our physical and mental wellbeing.
Can you remember what its like to look forward to a Monday morning? Whether it's within your current organisation or making a complete change, being aware of what motivates you and enhances your life is the key to success and fulfilment.
In addition to the SMHFA and Careers Counselling, I also offer Bespoke Training tailored to your needs.
In the past I have delivered courses on a variety of subjects including a highly engaging Primary School Substance Education programme on Tobacco use to primary schools, and a Relationship First Aid course (on behalf of The Spark) encouraging the building of positive, productive relationships in professional and private life.
I also specialise in Personal Skills development and confidence building courses.
